Why RAIMAC Isn’t Building an App

Inspired by “Apps Are Dying. Agents Are Buying” by Simon Taylor, Fintech Brain Food

In fintech, the instinct to build a destination a slick app, a full dashboard, a beautifully branded experience, it runs deep. But at Raimac, we are deliberately doing the opposite. And we believe that is exactly where the opportunity lies.

Simon Taylor captured this shift with real clarity in a recent edition of Fintech Brain Food, titled “Apps Are Dying. Agents Are Buying.” The headline is punchy, but the insight is even more important.

The piece unpacks a deep shift in how software is now adopted, distributed, and monetised. Apps are no longer where the action is. Capabilities are. The companies that thrive will be the ones that embed, not those that wait to be discovered.

At Raimac, that is not just a trend we are watching it is a strategy we are built around.

No-one wants another app

The truth is, we are all overwhelmed by software. Business users are no different. Utilities, payment teams, and SaaS providers do not want another login, another dashboard, or another process that sits outside their stack.

What they want is smarter functionality inside what they already use.

That is why Raimac is not an app. It is an infrastructure layer. We are an API-first programmable payments engine that works invisibly inside a merchant’s billing platform, PSP portal or CRM. The customer experience stays seamless. The integration happens behind the scenes.

We do not expect anyone to log in to “Raimac.” We expect them to benefit from it without ever knowing it is there.

Distribution has changed

Simon Taylor’s core point is this: distribution is no longer about where people go, but about who already has their attention.

That is why our go-to-market strategy is laser-focused on working through:

  • Payment service providers (PSPs)
  • Merchant acquirers
  • Utility billing platforms
  • SaaS companies with embedded payments

These are our distribution agents. They already serve the customers we want to reach from utilities and councils to subscription businesses and travel providers.

By embedding our programmable payments engine into their systems, we scale quickly without adding procurement complexity or IT overhead. It becomes a win-win. They get a new product to sell. We get a trusted route to market.

A new value proposition for PSPs

The payments sector is crowded. PSPs and acquirers are under pressure to differentiate, but there is very little room to do so. Most are reselling the same rails with different logos.

Raimac gives them something different.

We help PSPs offer merchants a better way to recover missed payments, reduce bad debt and build consumer trust. Our engine automates repayment plans, adds smart rules to the payment flow, and enables merchants to let customers choose how and when they pay all without taking on credit risk.

This has strong traction already. We have signed agreements with ISX and Cashflows, two well-established UK payment operators. And we are in active discussions with others.

For the PSPs that work with us, this becomes a tool to increase revenue, reduce churn and offer genuine innovation to their merchant base.

It is not about brand. It is about function.

This is not about building Raimac into a consumer brand. That is not the play. This is about building something that just works; quietly, powerfully, and in the background.

Our goal is not to create another dashboard. It is to enable fair, flexible, and fully automated payment plans through the channels our partners already control.

That is what programmable payments are. A shift away from rigid processes and credit dependency. A move towards flexibility, compliance, and consumer control.

A new model for fintech growth

Simon Taylor’s article ends with a powerful observation. Apps are no longer the answer. The future belongs to platforms, agents, and embedded capability.

That is why we have built Raimac the way we have not as a destination, but as a tool that others can use to enhance their own offerings.

We are not here to be another app in your stack. We are here to make your payments work better.
